Del.icio.us is a great tool for use on the internet for everyone. I like that you can tag the links that you are saving so that they are easily retreivable by topic. You can further the ease of retreival by bundling the topics together according to your needs. Anyone can use the tool, and you can colaborate with friends on the sites that are bookmarked. What a great idea!
It was interesting to see what different search results I retreived using the different search options. One search only resulted in actual blogs listed hierarchly. The other search I had more fun looking through members using the tag, and the browse mode.
I love using LibraryThing as a reader's advisory, to see what other people like with similar interests. We can add our library to a blog site, and that seems helpful when you want to share titles with others through your blog.

Myspace - Week 3
Myspace is a great way for libraries to connect with people who socialize online. I think it is essential for libraries to connect with teens in their environment.
David Lee King had a great idea about creating a "band" login for the library in order to add music, and podcasts. It would be great to highlight local bands on our site. We have an art gallery, and we could definitely use a music spot. We could also add podcasts of our teen events as an advertisement to teens that have not attended our events yet.
When I read about the concerns about Myspace being a predator playground, I thought about how vulnerable kids and adults are to scams and being lured into bad situations. People of all ages need to learn what precautions to take, and how to discern false information from good information. I agree that many perpetrators are online, but they are present in our everyday life too. Thankfully there are people who want to educate others about safe online practices.
On another topic, I have found it difficult to edit the profile settings for myspace. So I went searching for profile editing sites and found a few. There are some good sites with information and some sites that show how easy it is to edit your site. If anyone has some advise or knows of a really good profile editor please let me know in the comments.

Wiki - Week 2
I find it hard as a librarian to trust the information found on open wiki sites in answering questions for patrons. Having said this, I have used Wikipedia on occasion to find general answers for questions. When I have used this I let the patron know that the information is coming from Wikipedia.
I was very impressed with the wiki sites that cover specific topics. The subject guides wiki seemed to be organized very well. When I followed the links for cooking, I was impressed with the subcategories listed and that many some links brought patrons to materials in the Library's catalog. This site also had great community resources listed. This seems like a great way to put all the links we need in one place to help patrons and fellow staff members, and was lay out of the site was user friendly.
The library success wiki site was another site that I enjoyed investigating. I like the ability to see what other libraries and librarians are doing according to topic. When I looked at the weeding link, there were links to tips and successful models that are being used by librarians. I think it will be a great place to find ideas as well as share with our colleagues.
Bull Run Library's wiki site had some interesting links for patrons to use. One of them was the "library elf" that keeps track of your library materials, notifies you when items are due to avoid fines, tracks your loan history, and you can keep track of multiple library cards.
In conclusion, I thought that wick's for specialized purposes and groups is a good idea. The pros can outweigh the cons to providing a wiki site. Although, I prefer to use sites and resources that are checked for factual accuracy, I can see myself using some of the above mentioned sites.

Gmail, Blog - Week 1
Since I already had a gmail account, I invited myself to a second one. After creating the account I logged into my main gmail account and added my new account name as a user for that account. The ability to monitor several email accounts through a main account is a great function.
Some of the other functions with gmail are great too. Starred emails can be quickly found. Also, when you open an email with 2 or more responses, all the emails are shown on screen with tabs to click on to see the responses. The inbox shows who has responded to these email chains.
